COUNTY The official Transylvania County Website
will lead you to just about everything you might ever want to know about
the area. In addition to restaurant and accommodation listings, you'll
find links to many of the area's natural attractions including the Pisgah
and Nantahala National Forests, the newly expanded DuPont State Forest, the
Blue Ridge Parkway, the Appalachian Trail, and the newly established Gorges
State Park. Of course you'll also find links to both Brevard
and Transylvania governmental offices, demographic information, and area
maps. One link leads to the The Brevard Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center , a great place to begin your virtual tour of the area. Their website is extensive and offers • a range of hotel/motel and B&B accommodation suggestions •links to numerous outdoor attractions including detailed descriptions of many of the some 400 waterfalls in the surrounding State Parks & Forests and Pisgah National Forest •a calendar of events including performances at the world-renowned Brevard Music Center • a guide to mountain arts
and crafts which abound in the Brevard area.
In addition, there are several scenic and challenging golf courses in the area including nearaby Etowah Valley Golf Resort with on-site accommodations. West of Brevard in the mountains you'll find a dozen or more golf courses including at Lake Toxaway, at Sapphire, and in the Cashiers. This is not to mention the extensive offerings in the adjacent Asheville and Hendersonville areas like Cummings Cove CC and Tom Fazio design Champion Hills CC, which are a 30-40 minute drive from Transylvania County Airport. . . . . And, just in case you're interested, the French Broad River which flows alongside the airport from headwaters above Brevard, is the third oldest river in the world after the Nile and the New River (which flows from the North Carolina - Virginia border northwest through West Virginia). The French Broad travels over 100 miles northward through the state to connect with the Tennessee, Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers before delivering its waters to the Gulf of Mexico. Incidently, the Eastern Continental Divide runs through this region, separating the Gulf and Atlantic watersheads. |
